1912 Mors Tourer

Only about 25 Mors vehicles remain in the world with nearly have of those in Victoria Vehicles were imported from
France and the body from the firewall back eing made in Portarlington. This vehicle is powered by as 12 hp 2.12 litre four cylinder Knight sleeve-valve engine. All the bright work is brass
with the Mors logo cast into various items including the pedals and the
bonnet handles. This vehicle is believed to have originally been used on a
station in outback South Australia after which is spent time in Adelaide
and Albury before coming to Shepparton. It is used regularly and is a
reliable rally vehicle which cruises at about 70kph. Emile Mors was a
leading French electrical engineer who experimented with producing steam
cars in the late 1880’s. After building about 8 steam cars he began
constructing light petrol powered railway trolleys then in 1895 began
production of cars and was selling around 200 per year at the turn of the
century. Mors held the land speed record in 1902 – 03 reaching 77.13 (124
km) for a flying kilometer. After the first world war Mors vehicle
production was irregular then after 1925 they only made components until
the 1950’s when they made a range of cheap electric scooters called
Mors-Speed.
